Recital by Mr. Schocker, traditional masterclasses, yoga, alexander technique workshop, meditation, ensembles, class concert and more .... Flute study in peaceful scenic surroundings. These classes offer intensive flute study balanced with activities to rejuvenate mind, body and spirit in the peaceful surroundings of the Holy Cross Monastery & Retreat Center on the Hudson River.

The masterclasses will be conducted as a series of open lessons. Mr. Schocker's teaching is highly individualized. He will pinpoint how people play physically and offer other specific options for exploration. His work as a composer has enhanced his ability to understand musical construction which he also discusses and demonstrates.

Gary Schocker is a veteran student of the alexander technique, as well as other mind/body methods and applies his own experience to his flute teaching. His approach is positive and encouraging.

These classes will be of interest to traditional students, as well as teachers and performers who may be interested in exploring a different approach to music.

Course includes master class flute instruction, an alexander workshop, a meditation workshop, yoga, ensemble and a closing class concert.

Accommodations: Each resident will have a private room and 3 hearty meals. The monastery cuisine is especially healthy and delicious. For commuters, lunch and dinner are included.

Repertory: All flute repertoire is acceptable, and Mr. Schocker's works are especially welcome.

Classes are non-competitive fostering a supportive learning environment. Age and playing level are not as important as the desire to learn and enjoy music.

Each session is limited to 18 performers.
